SING IT, JULIE!

When the dog bites,

When the bee stings,

When I'm feeling sad…

I simply remember my FAVORITE THINGS

And then I don't feel so bad.

(My Favorite Things by Julie Andrews)

I didn’t get bitten by a dog or even stung by a bee, but still 2020 was a year that made us all feel pretty bad.  It was difficult to put on a happy face and feel positive; but it’s 2021 and maybe…just maybe…it will turn out to be a decent year.  One thing I am going to “try”  my very best to do is to be more POSITIVE and think more good thoughts.  So for this post I thought I would write about some of my favorite things…things that bring a smile to my face, things I enjoy, things that make life just a little sweeter.

This is a new favorite thing.  I was out looking for things to put in my tiered tray for Valentines, and I came across this beautiful mug.  It’s a good reminder to me as I drink my morning coffee that no matter what’s going on around me, LIFE is a blessing from God and so LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL!  And would you believe this pretty little thang ("southern” for “thing”) cost only $1 at Dollar General!)

Speaking of my tiered tray…it’s become one of my favorite things.  Here it is all ready for Valentines Day.

Every year for part of my Christmas, my husband gifts me with this.  Y’all!!!!  It is absolutely delicious.  He orders from Amazon; I’ve never seen it in a store.  Give me a cup of this, my soft PJs, and a good book and I’m happy as a pig in mud!

I don’t mind spending a little more on skin care, but I’m not one to spend a ton of money on my makeup…and this mascara (though cheap...$4.99) is a favorite.  I saw it recommended on several blogs and youtube channels and decided to try it and so glad I did.  I have had more expensive (and good) mascaras, but this one works as well or better, and what a bargain.  Again, Amazon!

I just happened to pick up a box of these one day awhile back as I was grocery shopping.  So glad I did because they are absolutely yummy.  If you want a salty snack, I highly suggest these.

I love to read although I take it in spurts.  Before Christmas I read both of these and if you like to read I think you will enjoy them.  You can read about them along with reviews on Amazon (where else?)  They are both a little sad but turn out fine in the end.  They are both stories of how resilient the human spirit can be if we don’t give up.

I’ve developed a real relationship with YOUTUBE!  I don’t watch much TV (especially these days when there’s nothing but sad news and reruns).  My husband watches lots of hunting, fishing, and sports shows along with a few other shows I don’t care for…and he’s the King of the Remote!  I want to be with him in the evenings, so while he watches TV, I watch youtube videos and have developed quite a list of those I’ve subscribed to.  One of my favorites is THE COTTAGE FAIRY.  (Be sure to click on that for the link.)  Her soothing voice and the lovely music are just so lovely and calming.

Here is a description:

Paola Merrill is an artist, teacher and YouTube creator known as The Cottage Fairy. Merrill shares glimpses of her rural idyll in Northeastern Washington State  and chronicles the simple things: her bunny Mr. Darcy, drying wild flowers and catching the sun rising over the mountains.  In her words her channel is about “lessons on living with abundance while living simply.”

So “these are a few of my favorite things” …things that add a little joy to my life.  If you drop by to “chat”, please tell me one or two (or more) of your  favorite things.  And if you want to read about some more of my favorites, you can read this earlier blog post.

Here’s to 2021 and hoping this year you will get to enjoy many of your favorites…and maybe we’ll find new ones to add to our list.  Life is just too short not to find things to enjoy!

Now to try and get that song out of my head so I can go to sleep!!!

  1. Well, you caught my attention when I saw Julie Andrews on the top singing "My Favorite Things". That is probably one of my favorite things...that whole movie...I remember singing all the songs in the shower back in the day when I was young and could sing soprano. My parents were astounded when I came out and said they didn't know I could sing like that and maybe they should give me voice lessons. Not sure if that was a compliment or not, but I never got the lessons as I got married instead. LOL. But I still love to sing...just can't quite reach Julie Andrews' standards. LOL. I love your post...so full of happy thoughts today, which we all need more of for sure. I loved the book Where the Crawdads sing. I feel like I read the other one, but for the life of me I can't remember it for sure so maybe I just looked at it and never read it. Now I have to check it out. Thank you for sharing your favorite things...I am enjoying watching the Canadian geese on our pond each day and watching for other "snow-birds" who have migrated south for the winter. Have a blessed week.

    1. Pam, I used to could sing...not great but decently...and then a few years ago my voice just left the building!!!! I hate it. I loved to sing. Don't know what happened...age I guess, along with bad sinus and allergy problems. You definitely need to read Before We Were Yours. A great place to order used books (most, not all, are very reasonably priced)...www.betterworldbooks.com. If you check into them, read their story. It's interesting.

  2. LOVING that cup! And girl...yes I like that price too. Too cute. I have seen that brand of hot chocolates carried at Walmart or Winn Dixie I think in the past but not I've seen that flavor. I will need to check it out. Girl...I found that same mascara on Ulta. I bought two by essense. One if regular mascare and then the one you are showing that gives that lift...that extra false lash look. Got both of them for under 10$ and love them and use them together. Well, I did but now letting one eye heal. LOL! I love your tiered tray. I got my Country Winter Tablescape up and I am in love with it. My mind already twirling on V-day table though.....Happy Week dear Lady. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  3. I'm the mascara queen! Working in an operating room for almost 50 years you only see our eyes! (wearing a mask is second nature for me!) So I've always worn eye makeup. I'll have to try this one! I'll let you know how I like it. Your blog is a favorite thing for me! Plus I love a good book and those two are on my list since I've seen a couple of bloggers who recommend them. I love hot cocoa too and a walk in the woods, cemeteries, Halloween, baking, the series: The Chosen..which is on you tube by the way! Have a good week!

    1. Jeanie, my mother has always seen the glass as half empty and so I grew up with that. It is still a journey I'm working on to see the cup as half full!!! Some days are easier/harder than others:)

    1. Yes, it definitely does. And I am working hard on being sure I see my cup as half full vs the opposite:)

  6. Great post, it's always fun to read about someone's favorite things. I love the mug and there's so many cute ones, but I only drink out of an insulated cup and their generally not as cute as ceramic but they sure do keep your coffee HOT a long time. Enjoy your week!

    1. Lea, I mentioned to my husband I should have asked for one of those insulated cups for Christmas. But I do wish they would come out with cute ones:)

  7. I love this. I will have to find a good book to read. That would be wonderful to sit by the fire with a book, a warm blanket and perhaps a cup of hot chocolate. Thanks for sharing your favorite things. Hugs

  8. Yes thanks for putting that song into my head, haaahaha ... one of MY favorite things is my tiered tray. One day last August or September when my mother was so sick and I was in Greenville helping to take care of her, I escaped to do a little shopping and came home with my very first tiered tray. I'm wild about it! The thing is, last year my daughter had convinced me to leave my Christmas tree up year round, and to decorate it for the seasons. I did it, and it was beautiful, but a lot of work. I have to say that my heart wasn't really in it, but despite that it looked pretty spectacular for the patriotic season (Memorial Day through Labor Day). But my mom was diagnosed on 7/31 and so I never did an autumn tree, and after taking the Christmas ornaments down this year, I took the tree down too. BUT I've found that decorating the tiered tray more than scratches that itch, and more people see it because it's on the table where everyone gathers to eat. I love the challenge of coming up with cute, unique things to put on it. Your February one looks beautiful! I'm excited to do that one. For January I've just done crystal things, to look like ice. That YouTube channel looks interesting! xoxo

    1. Jenny, I know some people do a year round tree but I would NEVER ever keep up with that. So like you, the tiered tray suits me just fine. I have added some heart lights that I got at $Tree:) I am a bargain hunter and so it's fun to see what all items I can add to my tree without spending a lot of money!!!

  9. Nice post about the little things you like. So I am going to have to try the hot cocca mix and for sure the mascara. I am always looking for a good one. I have to say I am picky with what I want in my mascara. I live volume and length. I don't like water proof and I like black! Like you really wanted to know that.

    1. I always enjoy hearing from you, Pam:) This mascara makes me look like I have false lashes...but that could just be me. I have seen a lot of bloggers who like it. Definitely try the hot cocoa...absolutely delicious!!!
