I’ve
been mulling over whether or not I want to have a WORD OF THE YEAR. Have you ever heard of that? The idea is to choose a word to focus on, a
word that can guide your actions or whatever you think you might want to
embrace more of in the upcoming year.
According to Elizabeth Rider, a health coach, choosing a Word of the Year “sets an intention for how you want your year to
flow." source
This year I think I want my word to be:
I’m not an artist, musician, or writer of great novels, so why choose CREATE? Good question…so I’ll “try” to explain. I was thinking about various words, and then all of a sudden (literally) the word create popped in my head. I "pondered" it for awhile, wondering why in the world that word came to mind. And this is what I came up with.
This year I want to be more creative in the way I look at my life. After all, there are other ways to create besides painting a picture or composing a sonnet. This year I want to:
*be more creative with my meal preparations! I am soooo tired of cooking the same things over & over. I have literally collected 100s of recipes, so why haven’t I used most of them????? (Thankfully I have a very sweet husband who seems to love whatever I put in front of him😊)
*delve into using all those arts & crafts supplies I have stored up and create scrapbooks, journals, pocket letters, memory dex cards, ATCs, or whatever else I get interested in. (I see lots of glue in my future!!!)
*continue writing my blog and try to be more creative in my posts….in hopes to keep the readers I have and maybe even gain a few more. I love to write but I need to up my game.
*be more creative in serving my Lord and helping others….after all, that’s what we are here for.
*create more joy in my life by involving myself in experiences that I enjoy and care about with family, friends, and myself. Not sure yet what all that encompasses but I hope some travel might be involved.
I recently read this:
Being creative means solving a problem in a new way. It means changing your perspective. Being creative means taking risks and ignoring doubt and facing fears. It means breaking with routine and doing something different for the sake of doing something different. It means mapping out a thousand different routes to reach one destination. It means challenging yourself every day. Being creative means searching for inspiration in even the most mundane places. source
I especially like that last part😊 Sometimes life can become so mundane, so “normal” that we fail to see what might be. I hope to find myself at the end of 2019 having been creative in all of these ways and more.
So….what do you plan to CREATE this year????
That’s a great word! You’ve created a wonderful post and your plan has started! Way to go! Now, I’m not choosing one word, but I do want to have a healthy new year. Maybe that’s going to be what I focus on the most!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Nancy
Nancy, thanks for dropping by. I too hope that we will all have a healthy and safe new year. Now I'm off to check out your blog:)
DeleteCreate is one of my favorite words and if I was doing a word of the year, I might pick it. This is the first year I haven't, although who knows. It's only mid-January! I might wake from a deep sleep and have an epiphany! But I can't think of a better one than yours!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Jeanie. Hopefully I will be able to create some great things in the year to come. Now I'm off to check out your blog. Thanks so much for coming by for a chat:)
DeleteI'm with Jeanie, that is probably the best "word of the year" that I have ever heard. It has endless possibilities and I'm betting it will so inspiring to you. Blessings abundant!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Lea. I really don't know what made the word CREATE pop into my head!!!! Not at all what I was expecting as I was thinking about words. Maybe there's a hidden meaning here...hmmm! I do hope I can help to CREATE a lot of good and happy things for those I love and care about. Thanks for coming by.
DeleteAm visiting from NANA DIANA TAKES A BREAK, and my word for this year is 'OTHERS'. I am hoping to look outside of me and care more about others. Your word 'CREATE' could apply in that area as well. Have a blessed Sunday.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful word to choose. I know you've been caring for your husband for awhile so I know you are a sweet, caring person. And yes, I hope to CREATE ways of sharing more with others through thoughtful measures.
DeletePerfect word for 2019. I have been creative lately in trying new recipes:) I haven't picked a word but will give it some thought. I have so many craft supplies that need to be used. Perhaps you inspire me to get with it:) Have a blessed day dear Cheri, HUGS!
ReplyDeleteToo bad we don't live closer. We could "push" each other to use up all those craft supplies:)
DeleteCheri- That sounds like the perfect word for you! I think that it popped into you mind unbidden is perhaps means it was 'meant to be!!!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a creative and blessed 2019. xo Diana
Diana, if I could be as creative as you I'd be tickled. I always love reading your posts...more times than not they bring a big smile to my face.
DeleteThat's a great word! Many places to build on that idea. My word is FREE. Free myself of junk in mind and closets. Free burdens that are slowing me down. Free myself from my job at the end of the year... hopefully!
ReplyDeleteFREE is a great word! I "freed" myself from my the working world about 4 (or maybe it was 3) years ago now. It was the 2nd time I retired:) And I have decluttered a lot this past year. It's a good feeling!
DeleteThat is a great word! My word is health this year. I am trying to get back in shape.
ReplyDeleteALL of us should should choose HEALTH as their word...everyday:) I joined a gym last April, I try to go 3 times a week plus I try my best to walk 5 days a week. However, don't ask me about my eating habits!!!! I really need to work on that! I do love my sweets!
DeleteCheri, I love your word for the year! While I'm not for resolutions, I try to set goals for myself and choose a word, or two for the year. My word for the year is "less stuff"...less stuff means less stress and more time for the things that are most important! Have a great one! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteBenita, thanks for dropping by. I love your idea about "less stuff." For the last couple years I have been pairing down, decluttering. When we downsized my MIL we were all overwhelmed at all her STUFF! I don't want my son to have to deal with that some day so I'm (slowly but surely) getting rid of lots of our STUFF:) Plus the older I get the less I like to dust!!!
DeleteHi Cheri
ReplyDeleteI love the word "Create" as a promptfor the new year. I am often finding myself wanting to try new recipes from all the wonderful cooking sites I see on Instagram, or using all the craft supplies I've collected through the years. I need to create more!
Pat, let's make a deal...I will try some new recipes in the weeks to come if you will:) My hubby is a great guinea pig...he's always willing to try something new.
