Well, FALL may be only 6 days away, but it sure doesn’t feel like it here in south
GA! The temps have been horrendously hot
here this summer, and they are still going strong. I did hear it may drop into the 80s later
this week…still not cool, but sure better than 105!
FALL is my favorite time of year…although I really like it better when we call it AUTUMN. I just like the sound of that
word😊 And I do love the beautiful leaves, although where we live the temperatures do not lend to changing colors, so we have to travel north if we want to see the glorious shades of yellow, gold, orange, red, and brown.
And one of my favorite things about FALL/AUTUMN are the colors….especially ORANGE!
Yep…I
love ORANGE! It’s a color I wear
well. And so…since I’ve already blogged
about PURPLE and BLUE, I decided it was time for ORANGE.
According
to information I found HERE…
“ORANGE triggers more
reactions than any other hue. It is often associated with something strongly
negative or strongly positive but is considered to be a "happy color"
in many cultures, representing the aspect of joy which raises the spirits and
invigorates the observer. (No wonder I like it so much!) It's associated with joy and sunshine and
represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, and DETERMINATION.”
In
many Asian cultures, ORANGE symbolizes good luck & prosperity. But this bright, cheerful color also has some
religious undertones. According to some
sources, ORANGE represents joy in Christianity… joy which is considered the catalyst of
acting on faith to receive God's blessings.
(I really like that!)
In
case you are ever on JEOPARDY, here is some PUMPKIN TRIVIA for you…
*A
French explorer in 1584 first called them "gros melons," which was
translated into English as "pompions," according to History. It
wasn't until the 17th century that they were first referred to as pumpkins.
*The
original jack-o'-lanterns were made with turnips and potatoes by the Irish.
*Over
1.5 billion pounds of pumpkin are produced each year in the United States.
*The
world's heaviest pumpkin weighed over 2,600 pounds. It was grown in Germany in October 2016.
*The
largest pumpkin pie ever baked weighed 3,699 pounds. (My son would have gladly helped them eat it...he loves pumpkin pie.)
Since
I was thinking so much about ORANGE, I decided to do some window shopping…well,
at least surfing the web shopping; and here are some of my finds, in case you
are interested.
I
love to wear this bright color, but mostly in the fall & winter
months. Here are some sweaters that
should brighten up a cold, dreary day…
This
one is from NORDSTROM…$59.00
I also like this one from TJMaxx...$16.99.
How
about a pretty ORANGE purse for a pop of color with the browns and neutrals of
cooler days? This
one is Tory Burch, but quite pricey @ $348 (and if you read my last post you know I’m
a sucker for a bargain…which this is NOT!)
I would not pay this for a purse that would be limited in its use. (I do
love my more neutral Dooney & Burke’s that were gifts from my husband!)
But
I would definitely buy this one from Amazon for $15.51 (if I didn't already own an ORANGE purse:)…very, very similar, aren’t
they! And what a savings!
And
how about this SNAKESKIN one???
Snakeskin and other animal prints are very ‘IN’ this year! This purse is on 50% sale...$19.98!
And here are the SHOES to match from a different seller...$72.96, but again a little too pricey for me when they wouldn't go with a lot of things. But I do REALLY like them:)
I'm seriously thinking of ordering this ORANGE plaid wrap from TJMaxx...only $9.99!!!:) Plaids are also 'IN'!
Well,
I guess that’s about all I have to say about ORANGE…and
ORANGE YOU GLAD? (tee hee!)
So how about you, do you like the color ORANGE?
I am a fan of brunt orange, I don't wear bright orange at all. I'm a fan of all the fall colors as well and am more than ready for fall to arrive. My goodness, it's still so HOT here. I, too, could help them eat that pumpkin pie, I absolutely love it!
ReplyDeleteI love burnt orange too:) But I'm told bright orange looks good on me...I have an olive tint to my skin. Used to be a lot darker when I was younger, but as with everything else about me AGE has changed it!!!
DeleteMy favorite season! I've been decorating with lots of orange and pumpkins. I don't put out the Halloween décor until Oct.1 but I did snag a pillow from Walmart for $5! Yes, they had some really cute ones! It's been a hot summer here and it looks like next week things are cooling off again. We always go up and down in temps around here this time of year. Hope yours come down soon!
ReplyDeleteOh, I hope so too!!! Glad you got the pillow. I may go back and get some more:)
DeleteI've never used orange in my decor, well, except for a few autumn accents, but even in recent years, I've been moving toward a more muted palette. However, I love wearing orange!! I have dresses, sweaters and scarves...it always makes a statement and is elegant and classy while still being fun!!
ReplyDeleteYou and I may be in the minority about orange...seems a lot of people don't like to wear it. But that's OK...more for us:)
DeleteI just love love your post about orange. Cheri, enjoyed reading all the factual information I especially loved the orange definition used in Joy in Christianity.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite sweater is the one you chose from Amazon! Now I must run over to Walmart and look for some outdoor pillows, lovely and a great price.
Thanks for visiting and for your sweet comment.
Blessings,
Sue
So glad I could turn you on to the pillows! I love the ones WalMart has with the little red truck. Think I'll go back for those!
DeleteFirst off ~ FALL is my fave time of the yr. But like Ga. Tennessee is not yet had the pleasure of Mother Nature bringing in FALL! Bout ready to slap that woman!! We have leaves falling all over but they are dead leaves and if we don't see rain soon I think fall is going to be dull and ugly. ORANGE has never been a fave color of mine. Not sure I own anything but a purse in orange (given to me)...but I love it mixed with the browns, reds and yellows of fall! Interesting learning about the color itself. I know when I see it out and about this time of yr it does make me happy. I even pulled out my cup with orange leaves on it this morn for coffee hoping that Mother N would play along some! HAHA....good luck with that. I have lots of relatives that live in your state. My mom was born in Cedartown. Hoping to make my way there soon to visit with her sisters. Saw them in Jan but I need and love the connection I have with them. Temps here right now at 8:10 our time is 74 with a high of around 92. Guess that is better then the 97 of yesterday....FALL....please come fall upon us.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Pam, for such a great comment! It was actually "somewhat" cool this a.m. and I enjoyed my coffee on the deck. But by week's end it is to be back up in middle 90s!!! Bummer! My pastor used to preach in Cedartown and when I was a child I had a penpal who lived there. But I've never been there. I love visiting TN, although haven't been there in several years. Hope Mother Nature will stop playing around and visit both of our states SOON!...well, at least usher in FALL!
DeleteIt is cool for a few days here but the heat will return for a couple more weeks, so they say! Thanks a lot for making me want to shop for some new orange pretties:) I think I will wear my tangerine colored pants today! Have a blessed and beautiful day my friend, HUGS!
