Who is CHERI? Re-Introducing Myself

I decided to try something new for this blog post.  I’m linking up with the Blended Blog girls and they’ve asked everyone doing so to REINTRODUCE THEMSELVES.  I thought since I am re-beginning my blog that this might be a way to reach new friends & readers.  So here goes!!!

I am a 68-year-old retired teacher (after 31 ½ years in the classroom plus 9 more years of mentoring and supervising student teachers), and I live in the deep South with my wonderful husband of almost 48 years.  We have a son who lives with his family only two blocks over and a daughter waiting for us in Heaven.  My son and DIL gifted us with two amazing grandkids…grandson R is 15 and granddaughter M is almost 12.  Those two make all our worlds go round😊

We live in a small, rural southern town. There is very little to do here and we have to go at least 70 miles in one direction to get any real shopping done, but it's a sweet little town with lots of history.  We have lived here since our son was almost two, and we still live in the small farm-style house we built when he was 6.  Sometimes I’ve wanted a bigger, more modern house but I’ve just never been able to leave our little homeplace.  My husband (and I) love our big yard, our big porch, and the small pond behind the house; so we’ll probably be here until we are toted out in a pine box…or too feeble to walk up the stairs!

Although there are things about retirement that I really enjoy (like not having to hear a morning alarm clock…and sleeping late), I do miss my teaching and the educators that I worked with.  I never thought about being a teacher when I was in high school or college, but God closed some doors and shoved me through the window and put me in the classroom where He wanted me….and where I believe I truly belonged.  Teaching & education (next to my family) are my passions!
                               My last class...loved those kids!!

Some things that I enjoy are:  reading, writing, shopping (especially for shoes), going “junquing” (looking for junk), scrapbooking, a little gardening, dancing (when given the chance), surfing the internet for interesting reads & projects, organizing (everything in sight), activities with my grandkids, and going on girlfriend trips with my 8 high school best friends.

I started my blog Cheri’s Chatter in 2010 and I was definitely out of my comfort zone.  In other words, I had NO idea what I was doing.  I really enjoyed writing my blog for awhile, although I never had a huge following; but then “life” just got in the way, plus I got somewhat disheartened and did not write for about 3 years.  Recently I decided I wanted to renew my blog writing and plan to use it more like a journal….and if anyone reads (and comments) that will be icing on the cake😊  I’ve always loved to write and I needed a new project.  (My childhood name was Cheri & that’s what my grandkids and their friends call me…and I love to chatter with anyone willing to strike up a conversation.)

Speaking of projects….I always need to have something to do!!!  I’ve begun to wonder if I am ADHD!  I have a really difficult time sitting and doing nothing.  I usually multi-task such as watching a TV program and surfing the internet at the same time.  I have found retirement to be somewhat boring so I’m forever looking for something to do or create.  I describe myself as a young-at-heart grandmother  and I am fighting the aging process as hard as I can go!!!  I don’t wear granny-panties and prefer “not your mama’s jeans”!  And I plan to continue to dance the night away any chance I get (and maybe wearing my red cowboy boots).

So that’s ME….nothing fancy, y’all…just a southern girl who loves her sweet tea, grits, and Jesus…and who is hoping you will drop by CHERI'S CHATTER and sit for a spell.

Be sure to stop by The Blended Blog and meet some other great bloggers.

  2. Hi, I read your comment on Theresa's blog. You mentioned sitting on the porch....I had to go see your porch! You see, I have a favorite spot at my house, our screened porch. I'm still waiting to be able to sit out there....it's been the coldest, snowiest spring ever here in PA. Tomorrow may be my chance, and the next two days before it gets chilly again....the elusive spring!
Your porch looks absolutely delightful. I'm certain good times are had there!

  3. Hello Cheri~ very nice meeting you. Thank you for coming to my blog the other day and leaving such a nice comment. I know what you mean about needing something to do since you are retired. Being a crafter I can find those somethings to do but...alas being a victim of Fibromyalgia I have really good days, and really bad....then the so so in between. It is nice surfing through your blog.
